Central Presbyterian Church Founded in 1844, Central Presbyterian was the very first church in Lamar County. The Reverend Samuel Corley was assigned to the northeastern part of Texas, then considered a "foreign mission" as part of the Republic of Texas, and Paris asked to be included in his circuit. That was the start of the Presbyterian denomination in Paris. The congregation changed its name from Cumberland to Central Presbyterian in 1910, when it became the geographic center of a newly formed Presbytery. Their third building, a brick and stone structure erected in 1891, was destroyed in the great fire of 1916. However, members rallied after the disaster, and just sixteen months and fifteen days later, on August 5, 1917, the first service in the current building on Church Street was held. Central Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the nation's largest body of Presbyterians. Presbyterians, like all Christians, consider the Bible to be the written Word of God, worship Jesus as Lord and Savior, and work to display God's Kingdom in this world. So.if you want to be part of a church that welcomes everyone, values learning about the Bible and faith with open minds, and works together as a team, please join us Sunday mornings at 10:45 for worship.
