Bob McCarley came to Paris from Dallas to manage Temple Lumber Company in 1961. In 1962, the name changed to Great Texas Lumber Company. In 1966, Temple sold to a group from Minnesota called N.B.C. (National Building Center). Bob and Florence McCarley bought the company in 1967 from N.B.C. and changed the name of the business to Paris Lumber Company. The business continued to grow as construction was on the rise in Lamar County. By 1978, Paris Lumber Company had outgrown the downtown location and a new, modern lumber and building material center was built at the corner of Pine Mill Road Center has been, "Where the Customer is Number One" and the McCarley's believe in good, old-fashioned full service as much today as they did over 50 years ago when they bought the business. Their employees have a combined experience level of over 600 years in the lumber and building industry, enabling them to assist their customers with all their special projects. Florence McCarley remains the Owner and Kyle McCarley is President/General Manager of the operation, along with his wife Pam, and their son, Andrew McCarley, who is currently working in Contractor Sales. The McCarley family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the customers who shop at Paris Lumber. Kyle and Pam enjoy spending time with their children, Lucas, Meagan, Andrew, and Lauren, as well as their grandchildren, Barrett McCarley, Violet Gain, Noel Gain, Leona Johnson, and Mary Johnson. The name was amended to Paris Lumber and Building Center to reflect the new products and services. The four year old building was demolished by the April 2, 1982 tornado that devastated Paris. Yet, the business was closed for only one day and a sign was posted on what was left of the building which read, "Yes, We are Open". Paris Lumber and Building Center will celebrate 53 years of service to these areas this year.
